HALF AN HOUR ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE TAPS.

Most people drink Memento beer a few metres from where it was made and never see that side of the wall. The tour opens it: the brewhouse, the fermenters, the kegs, and the person who decides what goes in them. Bring curiosity, not a beer vocabulary — every stop comes with a glass, and the questions are the good part. $20 per person, in English or in French.

WHAT HAPPENS ON THE TOUR

You go behind the taps into the working brewery: the brewhouse, the fermenters, the kegs. Someone from the team explains what is happening in each tank while you taste 4 Memento beers.

It takes about half an hour. You do not need to know anything about brewing — this is a tour for people who like drinking beer, not for people who already make it.

FROM GRAIN TO GLASS

The tour follows the beer in the order it is made. You see every step for real, with whatever was happening in the tanks that day.

  1. Malting and kilningBarley is cleaned, steeped in water for about two days, then left to germinate for four or five days. Germination is stopped by drying it slowly at 80°.
  2. MillingThe grain has to be opened up to give away everything in it. It goes through the mill — cracked, not turned to flour.
  3. MashingMilled grain is mixed with warm water and the starches turn into sugars. The liquid that comes off is called wort. The spent grain goes to farms.
  4. BoilingThe wort boils for several hours with hops, and sometimes with a special ingredient. Boiling sterilises it, concentrates it and sets the bitterness.
  5. FermentationThe cooled wort goes into a fermenter with yeast, which turns the sugars into alcohol and carbon dioxide. That takes days — sometimes weeks, depending on the beer.

Questions

TOUR QUESTIONS.

WHERE THE TOUR STARTS
When do tours run?

Friday at 5pm and 6pm in English, Saturday at 3pm and 4pm in French, every week. Book a scheduled departure on this page, or ask for any other day through the form below.

How long is the tour and what is included?

30 minutes with a member of the beer team, and 4 Memento tasters along the way.

Do I need to know anything about beer?

No. The tour is built for people who like drinking beer, not for people who already make it.

Can one person book, or does it take a group?

One person is enough — book a single place on any departure. A scheduled departure is a mixed group: you join whoever else booked it. For more than 10 people, send a request and we set up a custom schedule, any time.

Which beers will we taste?

Whatever is in the tanks and on tap that week. The selection follows current production, so it changes.

How much is it?

$20 per person, paid when you book your place on a scheduled departure. A custom date for a larger group is arranged with us first, and paid separately.

Which language is the tour in?

One language from start to finish, and the day decides which: Friday departures are in English, Saturday departures are in French. A group of more than 10 people can ask for either language on a day of its own.

Can a tour be part of a bigger event?

Yes. A group can rotate through the brewery while the rest of the party carries on elsewhere in the building. Plan that through group events.
